23rd Edition of the João Rock Festival Credit: Rafael Cautella In 2025, João Rock correctly disposed of more than 14 tons of waste and reduced energy consumption by 46% with certified renewable credits. In its 23rd edition, the festival went further: it began tracking waste from assembly to disassembly of structures with the goal of increasing the reuse of organic waste through composting by 30%. Waste management and clean energy Until this year, the festival's environmental control only covered the event days. Now, production has also tracked assembly and disassembly waste: construction debris, wood, hardware, canvas, plastics and metals were separated at source and sent for recycling. Cooperagir, a cooperative that employs local collectors, sorts all the material collected, a chain that generates income in the region in addition to providing the correct destination for festival waste. Furthermore, João Rock also compensated 100% of the electricity consumed during the event. The partnership with Tereos, through the Guarani brand, uses international credits I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate), ensuring traceability of energy generated by cogeneration from sugarcane biomass. "The issuance of I-REC certificates reinforces our commitment to a more sustainable energy matrix, ensuring that the festival's consumption is compensated by energy from certified renewable sources", says Gustavo Segantini, commercial director at Tereos. Expanded accessibility The festival also reinforced the structure for people with disabilities: Accessibility Center, exclusive parking and entrance, elevated platforms to watch the shows, adapted bathrooms and translation into Libras on all stages. In partnership with Banco do Brasil, the public received a mobility kit with the loan of wheelchairs and motorized chairs, a workshop for small repairs and specialized staff throughout the event. The Ferris wheel, also sponsored by the bank, had seats adapted for people with disabilities and reduced mobility. Reception Room Another Festival initiative was the Reception Room, to welcome people who need a calmer environment during the event. The space had a multidisciplinary team, a decompression environment, sensory kits, harm reduction actions and mobile public support teams. Greenpeace at the festival for the fourth year Greenpeace Brasil returned to João Rock with an inflatable igloo dedicated to environmental awareness, where the public watched the documentary "Juruá: Soluções da Floresta" and participated in educational activities. "Greenpeace Brasil's participation in yet another edition of João Rock is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of a more sustainable world", says Débora Borges, Director of Fundraising at Greenpeace Brasil.
