The Santa Casa Foundation held this Friday (7) an action to encourage breastfeeding, in reference to World Breastfeeding Week and Golden August, in Belém. The program, promoted in partnership with Sespa/Usipaz, brought together patients, professionals and users of the institution. During the event, guidance was offered on the benefits of breast milk, breastfeeding techniques and ways to donate. ? The program offered Breastfeeding Stations, including Sustainability and Breastfeeding, which focuses on the Positive Ecological Impact of Breast Milk; Signs of Readiness, Correct Grip and Positions, which focuses on preventing cracked nipples and pain. The station is the Support and Strengthening Network that presents Santa Casa as a child-friendly hospital. And the station is the Human Milk Bank (BLH)/ Firefighters of Life Project, focusing on registration for donations, raising awareness and contributing to effective support for breastfeeding. According to the coordinator of the Santa Casa Human Milk Bank, Cynara Souza, the service works to support mothers who face difficulties during breastfeeding. “As we have a theme that seeks to encourage breastfeeding in all situations, we want to strengthen inclusive breastfeeding in Pará, working towards one of the objectives which is the beginning of a sustainable life”, he stated. Between June 2025 and June 2026, the Santa Casa Milk Bank received 3,678 liters of human milk. The volume benefited around 2,520 recipient babies. The monthly average is 239 donor mothers. According to the institution, children hospitalized in Santa Casa's neonatology area require, on average, 300 liters of human milk per month. ?
