Festa do Peão de Barretos launches riding program The Festa do Peão de Barretos will distribute around R$1.5 million in prizes at the 2026 rodeo and open the way for Brazilian competitors to compete in one of the main competitions of the sport in the United States. The edition will also feature famous Brazilians in the USA. The announcement was made this Tuesday (7) during the launch of the sports program for the 71st edition. The tests take place from August 20th to 30th, at Parque do Peão, in Barretos (SP). There are around 3,500 competitors registered in nine disciplines, according to the organization. "The prize pool is around R$1.5 million overall. I believe it will be a very different rodeo this year", said Marcos Abud, rodeo director at Festa do Peão. The contest will qualify for The American Rodeo 2027, one of the highest-paid competitions in the world taking place in the USA. Currently, the international rodeo champion is Vitor Manuel Dias, from Sales (SP). According to the organization, the champions of team roping, breakaway roping, three barrels and bull riding guarantee a place in the regional finals of the North American competition, scheduled for April 2027. The four best placed in the National Rodeo League (LNR) will also qualify. The program includes bull riding, cutiano, three barrels, team penning, team roping, ranch sorting, breakaway roping, bareback and American saddle. The junior rodeo is also part of the schedule. Names expected in the arena The Barretos International Rodeo should bring together Brazilians, North Americans, Mexicans and international guests. Among the names mentioned by Abud are Cássio Dias Barbosa, world bull riding champion in 2024, and João Ricardo Vieira, two-time champion of The American Rodeo. Vieira must participate in the Festa do Peão de Barretos before ending his career, according to Abud. Both passed through the Barretos arena before embarking on an international career. The women's roping event debuted in Barretos in 2025 and is identified by the organization as one of the disciplines with potential for growth in the country. "It's a test that tends to grow a lot in Brazil. It's already very strong in the United States," said Abud. The director also stated that the daughter of three-time world champion Silvano Alves, aged 16, should compete in Barretos in the sport.
