After three and a half years in office, the governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra (PT), fully fulfilled 5 of the 17 promises made during the re-election campaign in 2022, according to a survey by g1. The Politicians' Promises project, by g1, monitors the fulfillment of commitments made by candidates for mayors, state governments and the Presidency of the Republic. At this stage, the survey considers a balance of what was delivered between January 1, 2023 and June 30, 2026, a period equivalent to three and a half years of office. Of the 17 commitments made by Fátima Bezerra: 5 were fully fulfilled; 9 were partially fulfilled, still with pending issues; 3 have not been fulfilled to date. Monitoring politicians' promises has been carried out by g1 journalists from all over Brazil since 2015. It began construction in March 2026. The unit is located in the Emaús neighborhood, in Parnamirim, in Greater Natal, and the work has a planned investment of R$200 million. The bidding process was suspended by the Federal Court of Auditors in 2025, after a complaint indicated that the state government had signed a contract with the company that came in fourth place in the dispute. The new hospital will focus on trauma, orthopedics and neurosurgery care. The unit is expected to have 350 beds, 40 of which are ICU beds. What the government says: In a statement, the government said that the hospital, which began construction only in March this year, is expected to be completed in two years. Build and implement a new public health laboratory No new public health laboratory was built between 2023 and 2026 in Rio Grande do Norte. During the period, there was a renovation at the Mossoró Regional Public Health Laboratory (Larem). What the government says: There was no construction of a new health laboratory in the state during the new mandate. The government of RN informed, in a statement, that it carried out extensive renovations at the Mossoró Regional Laboratory, with investments of R$ 1.7 million, which increased the service capacity from 3 thousand to 4 thousand per month in the region, which comprises 27 municipalities in the West and Vale do Açu. Implement six polyclinics in different regions of the state Only one of the six promised polyclinics was opened by June 30 of this year, the Seridó Regional Polyclinic, located in Caicó (RN), opened in October 2023. A second polyclinic in the state was delivered at the beginning of July, outside the period considered in the g1 survey. In 2025, a term of commitment was signed for the construction of polyclinics in Assú and Ceará-Mirim, but there was no progress in the works. What the government says: The government informed, in a note, that the Natal Polyclinic is in the bidding phase for the work at the State Infrastructure Secretariat. The government's communications office did not provide information about the other planned polyclinics that were not completed. Implement the Hospital Care Policy The governor's proposal was to integrate municipal and philanthropic hospitals into regional care networks, granting incentives for the qualification and expansion of services at regional hospitals. Although there were financial transfers allocated to the Hospital Care Policy for municipalities such as Goianinha, Serra Negra do Norte, Tenente Ananias, Patu and São Gonçalo do Amarante in 2023 and 2024, there were no systematic investments in other years, nor were investments allocated directly to philanthropic hospitals, as foreseen in the government plan. Expand the number of defenders and install regional centers of the State Public Defender's Office The number of Public Defender's Office service centers in RN has increased with new units created, for example, in Extremoz and Luís Gomes, opened in 2025. In total, according to the Public Defender's Office, there are currently 43 service stations across the state. The number of defenders, however, did not increase. In June 2022, the Public Defender's Office had 102 defenders and, in June 2026, there were 99, according to the agency. The last public competition for the position was held in 2015. What the government says: The government of Rio Grande do Norte was approached to explain why the promise was partially fulfilled, but did not respond to the demand. Implement 107 new specialized police stations to assist women who are victims of violence The government of Rio Grande do Norte reported that the governor was confused when speaking of 107 police stations in an interview with Inter TV, in 2022 and that, in fact, the correct number would be 7 new police stations for Women's Assistance. But this advance, between 2023 and 2026, did not occur either. g1 confirmed that the promise of seven new police stations is in the government plan. g1 found that two women's police stations were opened in the last administration - both in 2023, one in Ceará-Mirim and one in Macaíba. According to the government, there are 12 DEAMs in RN. In March this year, the government also inaugurated a new headquarters for the Vulnerable Groups Duty Station in Natal, which serves, in addition to women, other groups, such as the elderly, children, and the LGBTI+ community in cases of prejudice based on race, color, ethnicity, and religion.
