Father of four children and grandfather of 14 grandchildren, he says that honesty brought him recognition, but did not change his reality. According to Antônio, in addition to not receiving any reward, he began to face inconvenience after the episode. He claims to have suffered psychological pressure from the bank manager and says that his account was classified as a VIP category, which would have generated undue bank charges. Because of this, he took legal action against the institution. The driver asks the court for the so-called right to reward, provided for in the Civil Code for those who return found property. In the process, he requests payment of 10% of the amount returned, around R$13 million, in addition to R$150,000 for moral damages. "I was going to renovate my house, buy myself a van, which I work as a driver. I didn't have a van. This could have been bought, but I didn't buy it," he stated. Case awaits court decision The case has been in court since July 2024. In March of this year, the judge responsible understood that the case was ready for trial and dismissed the hearing of witnesses, as he considered that there was no need to produce new evidence. Antônio's defense filed a motion for clarification, a resource used to request clarifications or corrections to the decision. The request is still under analysis and, only after the judgment of this appeal, will the sentence be handed down. In a note, the Tocantins Court of Justice reported that the case had been ready for judgment since March, but that the analysis of the embargoes took place within the legal deadline.
