Truck driver who dragged car is interviewed by police The defense of the truck driver who dragged an elderly woman's car for around 700 meters on Via Dutra, in São José dos Campos (SP), stated that he did not flee the scene of the accident and that he did not notice the collision because the victim's vehicle was in a blind spot of the trailer. The Federal Highway Police (PRF), however, disputes this version and states that the records analyzed show that the truck made a brief stop after the accident, continued its journey, passed in front of the corporation station without stopping and the driver did not call the emergency telephone number 191 (read more below). This Monday (6), the truck driver gave a statement to the Civil Police. He was interviewed and released. The investigation into the case continues. The accident The accident happened around 11am, at km 145 of the Presidente Dutra Highway, towards São Paulo, in the Vila Industrial region, East Zone of São José dos Campos. According to Maria Auxiliadora, the elderly woman whose car was dragged, she was traveling along the highway when she had to change lanes because of a narrowing in the road. "There was a traffic jam with cones, I turned left and the truck claimed it couldn't see me." In an interview with Rede Vanguarda, the truck driver's lawyer, Antônio Franc, stated that the driver told a dealership employee that he would go to a safe place to park the truck, as the stretch of Via Dutra was under construction and an immediate stop could block the road. According to the defense, the truck driver noticed that the elderly woman was outside the vehicle, apparently uninjured, talking on her cell phone and taking photographs of the truck. After that, he went to a gas station, where he waited for around two hours to register the incident. The lawyer also stated that, for safety reasons, the driver could not open the trailer door on that stretch of highway and, therefore, decided to continue to a place considered safe to stop. The version presented by the defense, however, is contested by the Federal Highway Police (PRF). In an interview with Rede Vanguarda, inspector Cleverson Calzado stated that the version that the truck driver waited to register the incident is not compatible with the information collected by the corporation. According to him, records show that the truck reduced speed and made a brief stop shortly after the accident, but then resumed its journey. Still according to the PRF, the vehicle passed in front of the corporation station without stopping. Afterwards, it was parked for around 40 minutes at another point on Via Dutra, further in front of the police unit. The inspector also stated that the emergency telephone number 191, used to respond to incidents on the highway, was not called by the driver. According to him, the expected procedure would be for the truck driver to stop at the PRF station or call the service to report the accident. The PRF also reported that it handed over the truck's tachograph records to the Civil Police. The equipment records data such as speed, distance traveled, driving time and stopping periods and will be analyzed during the investigation. The Civil Police reported that investigations continue. In addition to analyzing the tachograph, other technical elements will be used to clarify the dynamics of the accident and verify the version presented by the driver. What does the dealership say? g1 sought out CCR RioSP to comment on the version presented by the truck driver. In a statement, the dealership reported that there was a shoulder approximately 500 meters from the collision site, where the truck could have stopped safely, and that there was no need to leave the scene of the incident. The company, however, did not respond to questions about the driver's statement that he had made contact with a dealership employee after the accident.
