Garbage tax in Caraguatatuba Reproduction/TV Vanguarda The court denied the request from Caraguatatuba City Hall to overturn the law that suspends the collection of garbage tax in the municipality. The decision was taken by the São Paulo Court of Justice and maintains the rule approved by the City Council in force. The city hall filed a lawsuit asking for the law to be declared unconstitutional. According to the municipal administration, the measure eliminates a source of revenue without presenting a study on the financial impact, which could compromise the provision of public services. When analyzing the request, judge Álvaro Torres Júnior denied the injunction. In the decision, he stated that the case requires a more in-depth analysis and that, at this moment, there are not enough elements to suspend the effectiveness of the law. ? Last week, the Legislature enacted the rule, which also provides for the refund of amounts already paid by residents.
