Círio and Festtividade de Nossa Senhora do Carmo have programming in Belém and Benevides

Festival for Our Lady of Mount Carmel brings together a crowd in Benevides every year Camila Lima/O Liberal The celebrations of the Círio and the Festivity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel began this Sunday (12) in Belém and Benevides, in the Metropolitan Region. The program brings together masses, processions, pilgrimages and cultural activities in honor of the patron saint of the Carmelite Order and continues until the 19th in Benevides and until the 16th in the capital. In Benevides, the Círio de Nossa Senhora do Carmo began at 7 am, with mass at the Santa Rosa de Lima Parish, in the Independência neighborhood. Then, the faithful participated in the procession to the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, where there was a celebration presided over by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Belém, Dom Julio Endi Akamine. The festivities in Benevides continue until July 19th with daily masses and cultural evenings. On Thursday (16), when the Catholic Church celebrates Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patron saint of the municipality, the Children's Círio will be held. The program starts at 8 am, with mass at Carmelo de Benevides, followed by a procession to the Main Church. The Youth Pilgrimage is also planned, on Saturday (18), leaving at 5pm from the Sagrada Família Monastery (Instituto Hesed), and the end of the festivities on Sunday (19). In the capital, the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Church, in Cidade Velha, promotes the festival from the 12th to the 16th of July with daily masses at 6:30 pm, followed by a gastronomic festival. On the 16th, dedicated to the saint, the program begins at 7 am with mass and procession through the streets surrounding the church. Three other masses will be celebrated throughout the day, at 9am, 12pm and 5pm. At 7pm, there will be diaconal ordination presided over by Dom Julio Endi Akamine and the archbishop emeritus of Belém, Dom Alberto Taveira Corrêa.
