Chico Simões, former mayor and councilor of Coronel Fabriciano, dies at 75 years old Coronel Fabriciano City Council The councilor of Coronel Fabriciano Francisco de Assis Simões Thomaz, known as Chico Simões (PT), died this Sunday (5), aged 75. A gynecologist and obstetrician, he was also mayor, deputy mayor, state deputy and president of the Association of Municipalities of Vale do Aço (Amvale). According to information released by the City Council, Chico Simões had been facing cancer since April this year. Even though he was weakened, he continued to serve as councilor remotely. ? Click here to follow the g1 Vales channel on WhatsApp Career in medicine and politics Born in Dom Joaquim, Chico Simões was born on October 17, 1950 and graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). A gynecologist and obstetrician, he worked in hospitals in Vale do Aço, was a coroner at the State Department of Public Security, a civil servant at the former National Institute of Medical Assistance for Social Security (Inamps) and a professor at the Faculty of Law of Ipatinga. In public life, he was vice-mayor of Coronel Fabriciano between 1989 and 1992, councilor from 1993 to 1996 and mayor of the municipality for two terms: from 1997 to 2000 and from 2005 to 2012.

Chico also served as a state deputy between 2003 and 2004, when he resigned from his position to run again for Mayor of Coronel Fabriciano. In 2024, he was elected councilor for the Workers' Party. In a note of condolence, the City Council stated that Chico Simões "left an important path of dedication to public life and the development of Coronel Fabriciano". The Legislature also expressed solidarity with family, friends and the fabrician population.
