Casa da Mulher Brasileira: MPF demands the restart of works in Manaus Photo: Reproduction/Rede Amazônica The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) gave a deadline of ten days for the State Secretariat of Justice, Human Rights and Citizenship (Sejusc) and Caixa Econômica Federal to present a schedule to resume work on the Casa da Mulher Brasileira in Manaus, which should take place within 45 days. The building was planned to bring together support services for women victims of violence, such as a specialized police station, Public Defender's Office, Public Prosecutor's Office, Judiciary, psychosocial care and protective measures. The work began in 2014, after the transfer of federal resources, but was interrupted and is still not expected to open more than ten years later. The project is part of the federal program “Safe and Protected Women”. The MPF also determined that the work must be completed within one year, as decided by the Federal Court. The sentence responds to a lawsuit filed by the agency, which held the Union and the government of Amazonas responsible for failure to execute the project. The objective is to guarantee protection for women victims of violence in the capital. If the deadlines are not met, the MPF may request an increase in the daily fine of R$100,000 already set by the Court and forward the case to the criminal center to investigate a possible crime of disobedience by managers. ?
