Macaé City Council debates strengthening protection for women after feminicide After the feminicide case of Tuani Maia Nascimento, 33 years old, who was stabbed to death inside the commercial establishment where she worked in Macaé, in the North of Fluminense, on Saturday (1st), a debate was sparked in the City Council to discuss strengthening the protection of women.

The first secretary of the House, councilor Leandra Lopes (PT), stated that it is necessary to expand actions to combat gender-based violence. “We really need to make these actions a reality,” he declared. ? The system provides for the attacker to use an electronic ankle bracelet and monitor his location in real time, allowing alerts to be sent if he fails to comply with the minimum distance determined by the Court. According to Leandra, the intention is for the municipality to work in partnership with the State and the Judiciary to strengthen the protection network for women. During the debate, Amaro Luiz also defended expanding women's access to defense instruments such as pepper spray, the acquisition and possession of which by women over 18 are already authorized by state legislation and, more recently, by federal law. The Tuani case had already denounced the ex-partner for threats and psychological violence and had protective measures granted by the courts. Ezequiel is in police custody after trying to take his own life after the crime. He will be charged with feminicide and, if convicted, could face up to 40 years in prison. According to the Civil Police, the perpetrator of the crime is the victim's ex-partner, Ezequiel Cordeiro dos Santos, 38 years old. To g1, the delegate of the 123rd Police Station of Macaé, Pedro Emílio Braga, stated that the authorship of the crime has been clarified. "The crime was committed in the presence of witnesses, who confirmed the criminal responsibility on the part of this criminal, who is already in prison," he said. According to the delegate, the man remains hospitalized in serious condition, in police custody, after causing injuries to himself, and there is still no expectation of discharge.
