The number also places the state in 5th position among the nine states in the Legal Amazon, ahead of Mato Grosso, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. ? More than 100 fishermen from Alto Acre have difficulty obtaining benefits. Furthermore, in total, the Legal Amazon has 1,016,237 registered artisanal fishermen and fisherwomen. Of this total, Acre represents around 2.1% of registrations. The state appears behind Pará (432,353), Maranhão (337,044), Amazonas (147,295) and Amapá (28,757). Next come Mato Grosso (17,909), Rondônia (12,195), Roraima (9,888) and Tocantins (9,453). (See table below) The numbers also show a strong concentration of registrations in three states. Together, Pará, Maranhão and Amazonas bring together 916,692 artisanal fishermen, equivalent to around 90% of all records in the Legal Amazon. In a survey released by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture in 2023, Acre had more than 10,300 active professional fishermen, considering workers duly licensed.
