The group's initial plan was to steal around R$30 million that were in bags inside an armored vehicle. The amounts had been transported by air from Curitiba, Paraná, on a paying aircraft. On the night of the crime, nine armed people invaded a restricted security area of ??the airport using three armored vehicles. Two of the cars were characterized as fake Federal Police vehicles. During the robbery, military police and security guards from the armored car reacted to the attack. A military police officer was killed in the exchange of gunfire.
