During one of these games, the child would have felt ill, falling, and the net would have gotten caught in the neck area.

"The dynamic is that the child actually entered the room and had the habit of playing in the hammock. She would wrap it around her waist and keep spinning, then let go. Either she felt sick or we don't know if she got dizzy and, when she fell, the hammock suffocated her, getting caught in her neck", explained police chief Luiz Antônio. Maria Vitória was rescued by her mother and taken to the Francisca Conceição da Silva Municipal Hospital, in Mossoró. According to the Municipal Health Department, the team initially managed to revive her, but the girl suffered a cardiac arrest shortly afterwards and could not resist, dying in the hospital unit. In a statement, the city of Mossoró expressed solidarity with the family and informed "that all necessary procedures were carried out by the unit's medical team." The case was forwarded to be investigated by the 38th Police Station of Mossoró. "Forensic medicine will help, it will contribute a lot to the conclusion of this investigation, possibly due to a fatality", said the delegate.
