São Paulo player is released after being run over by an elderly man

The accident occurred around 9:53 pm on Monday. The victim was crossing the street when he was hit by the BMW driven by the athlete.

Before the accident, Nicolas had had dinner in a shopping mall with fellow players Igor Felisberto and Ryan Francisco. After the meeting, the three left the place in separate vehicles.

The two companions returned when they noticed the accident and, according to the reports presented, helped to treat the victim. Nicolas remained at the scene, called the rescue team and was then taken to the police station to provide clarification.

A witness told police that the three vehicles were traveling at high speed. The athletes denied this version and said they were traveling at approximately 50 km/h. They also stated that none of them had consumed alcohol during dinner.

After undergoing a custody hearing at the São Paulo Court of Justice, Nicolas received authorization to respond to the case in freedom. The court suspended the player's National Driving License and banned him from obtaining a new driving permit until another decision.

The athlete must also appear in court monthly, keep their address up to date and cannot leave the region where they live for more than eight days without judicial authorization.

In a statement, the defense stated that the elderly man was crossing the road outside the pedestrian crossing and at a point considered inappropriate for crossing.

“The defense of athlete Nicolas informs that, last Monday night, he was involved in a traffic accident when a person was crossing the road outside the pedestrian crossing and in an unsuitable place for crossing,” he declared.

The lawyers also highlighted that the player remained at the scene and collaborated with the authorities.

"Immediately after the incident, Nicolas remained at the scene, provided all assistance, called the rescue service and, later, attended the police station to provide the necessary clarifications. At the time, it was found that he had not consumed alcoholic beverages and that his National Driving License was in good standing", informed the defense.

The note added that the athlete has already given a statement and will be represented by lawyer Guilherme Pacheco during the investigation.

“The case is under the defense of lawyer Dr. Guilherme Pacheco, who is adopting all necessary legal measures and fully monitoring the investigation of the facts, seeking to demonstrate his innocence”, says the statement.

The defense also expressed solidarity with the victim's family and asked for caution until the investigations are completed.

São Paulo reported, in an official statement, that Nicolas had not consumed alcoholic beverages and had regular driving documentation.
