SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - The elimination of the Brazilian team in the 2026 World Cup caused more than just frustration among fans. A survey by Orbit Data Science shows that pessimism regarding the future of Brazilian football in World Cups has increased.

The study analyzed 7,855 public conversations on X, Instagram and TikTok between April 20 and July 6. According to the research, the initial reaction was predominantly emotional:

63% of publications related to the elimination expressed direct frustration with the result.

41% of comments indicate that Brazil will not win a World Cup again;

17% still believe in a sixth championship in 2030;

16% direct expectations to the 2027 Women's World Cup;

13% see the beginning of a new cycle for the Brazilian team with optimism.

Afterwards, fans started looking for explanations for the fall.

Among the comments analyzed:

12% attributed the elimination to the team's performance;

5% pointed out a lack of rapport;

5% blamed the wasted penalty and argued that Vini Jr. should have been the one taking the penalty.

The criticism also began to affect structural issues of the selection. According to research:

23% say that the current generation of players does not match the weight of Brazil's shirt;

12% call for coach Carlo Ancelotti to leave;

Charges also appear directed at the CBF, the call-ups and the team's sports project.

POSITIVE DEVELOPMENTS

Despite the pessimistic scenario, the survey identified a movement of renewal among fans. Among the positive manifestations related to the players:

32% show relief that Neymar is no longer the team's main reference;

Endrick leads the mentions of hope for the future, with 19%;

Martinelli and Vini Jr. appear next, both with 11%.

For Carolina Valle, Research and Monitoring leader at Orbit Data Science, the World Cup marked the transition of protagonism within the team.

Endrick, Vini Jr. and Martinelli leave the tournament with decisive symbolic capital. During the competition, the fans progressively chose the three as protagonists of the next cycle of the selection, responsible for carrying the dreams and identity of Brazilian football in the coming years.

In the opinion of Caio Simi, CEO of Orbit Data Science, the data shows that the feeling of mourning for the elimination was quickly accompanied by a search for new symbols.

Pessimism dominates the present, but Brazilian fans didn't take long to start looking ahead and building new reasons to believe.
