In an interview with Reuters, the "Past Lives" actress said that portraying her character's emotional breakdown -- and how it affects the bonds between spouses, parents and children -- was one of the biggest challenges she faced during filming. "We were lucky enough to work with a real survivor," said Greta Lee. "It's incredibly inspiring to understand the real physiology of what happens to you." Directed by Louis Leterrier, from "The Master's Trick" and "Fast and Furious 10", the film follows a family of four who are suddenly trapped inside their home, with no way out. They must work together as supplies run out and a mysterious outside threat keeps them confined. The production was filmed inside a single house that deteriorates over time, reflecting the characters' collapse. “The Secret Agent” star Moura described the set as a feat of engineering: “In the second part of the film, the way they managed to turn the house into a kind of aquarium… I had never seen anything like it before.” Wagner Moura and Brazilian scientists are featured on Time's 100 most influential list Leterrier, who said he has worked on films with budgets of US$400 million, admitted that this was the most difficult film of his career. "I've done films where I literally jumped from one plane to another," he said. "(The Last House) was very, very difficult for everyone involved." In addition to the suspense, Leterrier explains that his intention was to make the audience reflect on themes such as consumerism and greed: "I like the idea that people will watch this film at home... and then look in the fridge... at their family, and think, 'how long would we survive if this happened now?'" He added that he and screenwriter Matthew Robinson were inspired by lessons learned during lockdown about how to "survive mentally and emotionally and grow with family." Lee seemed to agree, humorously commenting that the "Narcos" star would be better off sticking to his day job. "The Last House" is available on Netflix starting Friday.
