Discover the story of Danilo and Davi and the hit “Don’t touch my drawers” ??The first half of 2026 on radio stations in Brazil was dominated by country music, repeating the result of recent years. But, this time, the highlight came with a catchphrase that came from the streets and became inspiration for a chorus accompanied by the accordion and an engaging parade. With the track "Não Mexe nas Minhas Gavetas", the duo Danilo & Davi reached the top of the charts and established themselves as the most played song on radio stations in the country in the first six months of the year, according to data from Crowley. For those who have never heard the saying, the expression "don't go through my drawers" is used as a kind of ironic warning to avoid the looks and even attitudes of someone who hits on other people's dates. Anyone who sees the duo's success may not imagine their trajectory, which included resignations, challenges and even stints on the football field. In an interview with g1, the duo, who have been on the road for six years and are sponsored by Marcos and Belutti, spoke about the behind-the-scenes of their hits, their individual trajectories marked by disappointments and overcoming, and the definitive turn in their career after the union of the two with the help of a musical godfather. Danilo: from controlling the TV as a microphone to hits by Marília Mendonça Danilo and Davi Cadu Fernandes/Divulgação Born in Paracatu (MG), Danilo, aged 31, took his first steps in music at the age of 9, playing with the TV control as a microphone and participating in a school festival with "Fada", by Victor & Leo. "I got second place, I don't know how, I sang really badly", he jokes. The desire to take his career seriously only awoke at the age of 15, when he moved to Crixás (GO), with the singer Luan Santana as his biggest reference. With his mother's support, he decided to risk everything and moved to Brasília in pursuit of his dream of a solo career. Danilo shared a kitchenette of around 30 m² with a friend, and slept in the living room while he studied "modão" on the guitar and made his first strokes on the composition. After a meeting with composer Gabriel Agra, he understood that lyrics could be his gateway to the stage. It was there that he decided to take a break from his singing side, which was not bearing fruit, and moved to Goiânia to dedicate himself to compositions. Danilo – or Gustavo Gomes Pereira, his given name – did well on the path of composition and, today, writes more than 600 songs, according to the Ecad website. Among them are big hits such as "10%" (Maiara & Maraisa), "Eu Sei de Cor" (Marília Mendonça), "Medida Certa" (Jorge & Mateus) and "Dois Enganados" (Murilo Huff and Marília Mendonça). Despite his financial success and recognition in the composition market, Danilo's true dream continued to be the stage. In 2018, he tried to record a solo DVD, but the project came to nothing. Disillusioned and with opportunities frozen by the arrival of the pandemic in 2020, the artist collapsed. "I said a very strong prayer, crying in the shower. I told God that I was doing the hardest thing in my life, which was giving up. Letting go of that dream was very difficult", he recalls. Danilo and Davi Cadu Fernandes/Disclosure About two months later, Danilo met Marcos (from the duo Marcos & Belutti) during a composition session. Upon seeing him record the guiding voice for a song on his cell phone, Marcos asked about his career. Danilo told his story to the country singer, who countered by saying that he was not a solo artist and that he had a duo to present for him. The singer agreed and met Davi. A week later, Wander Oliveira, from WorkShow, invited him to be the second voice of Netto, in the duo with Henrique, after the tragic death of his partner in a car accident. Despite many considering it to be the big break in Danilo's career, the singer refused the proposal to continue with Davi. "Six years later, I am certain that respecting that process was the best decision of my life", he concludes. Davi: From the trauma in football to being sponsored by his famous uncle If today Davi celebrates choosing his partner and getting first place on the radio, his adolescence was spent away from the stage. Born in Santo André (SP), the 28-year-old singer grew up in a musical cradle — including a great-aunt, a freshman from Chacrinha, and an uncle among the biggest names in country music, Marcos, Belutti's duo. Still, he ended up becoming more enchanted by the sport as a teenager. At the age of 13, Allan Marcelo De Souza Celestino (David's given name) passed a test for the Velo Clube and went to live in the team's accommodation. The experience, according to him, was traumatizing. After months of training, Davi was removed from the team. "It was my first disappointment." Back in Santo André, Davi felt the desire to sing grow louder when he saw the teenagers' choir at the Baptist Church. But the first steps were not as he dreamed. Invited by his cousin Larissa (Marcos' daughter) to sing in the choir of another church, he received a reality check. "I had no experience in choir. The teacher was impatient with me and shouted in front of everyone because I didn't have that much technique. I went home sad, saying that music wasn't for me." Danilo and Davi Cadu Fernandes/Disclosure Davi persisted and became the main soloist of the teenagers. Until he began to feel that, while he sang in church, he was thinking a lot about himself. "I felt that there was no longer worship there. I decided that I would go into country music and, when I was in church, it would just be to worship God, without caring about what they thought of my voice or how I was behaving." When asking his uncle for support, he heard that he needed to "get experience at night for a couple of years". When he finally went into the studio to record with Marcos, the result was frustrating: "It was a fiasco. I sang everything wrong and I felt like I had let him down. I thought about giving up, but I heard that voice again: 'try one more time'". Between bars and pubs, Davi performed 22 shows a month with fees of R$200. But with the arrival of the pandemic, everything stopped. A new conversation with Marcos led to the meeting of Danilo and Davi. Finally, the meeting: instant connection With the stories united, the connection between the pair was instantaneous. And despite already having a stable financial condition with his compositions, Danilo insisted on starting from scratch and experiencing the reality of the road with Davi. "When I accepted the duo, I had to regress a lot in terms of quality of life, because I had my income from composing. But I wanted to experience the same thing that Davi would go through. When we started, our shows cost R$8,000, R$10,000. We would get in the van and travel 30 hours from Goiânia to Rio Grande do Sul to play for 30 people. The secret to success is living the process and waiting for time", highlights Danilo. Today, the reality is very different. Asked if the sequence of hits at the top of the charts helped add "zeroes to the right" to the duo's earnings, they do not hide their happiness at the financial turnaround. “It made a good improvement, thank God”, jokes Davi. "Before we only bought clothes in questionable places, now we're buying Zara", laughs Danilo. The birth of a hit: 'Música do Povão' Danilo and Davi Cadu Fernandes/Disclosure "Não Mexe nas Minhas Gavetas" was born in a camp composed by the duo, tailor-made for the latest DVD, "Aliança". Danilo explains that the track emerged from the search for a popular catchphrase. "I really like composing about catchphrases. 'Don't go through my drawers' is that saying when someone is going through your things, your date, your girlfriend", says Danilo. The bubblegum chorus, however, was kept in my pocket for a year and four months. "We held on to it for so long because we still didn't know when we were going to record a new project. And when we started camping, it was the moment when 'Apaga Apaga Apaga' started to take hold", says Danilo, citing another hit by the duo. The song was featured in Spotify's Top 10 throughout almost the entire year of 2025. Initially, "Apaga Apaga Apaga" was a commission for the duo Diego and Victor Hugo. But upon adding the voice, the duo decided to keep it. "They were waiting for the music, but it didn't arrive. We cut the path", jokes Danilo. The 'Campings' Laboratory and market criticism Responsible for signing around 90% of their own repertoire, Danilo & Davi defend composition camps — immersive meetings with various composers —, a format that tends to receive criticism from more traditional country folk. In a recent interview, for example, Chitãozinho, duo from Xororó, spoke about this composition process. "I think that country music today is very mechanized. It is very much made in series. The guys get together in studios, in campsites, in one place, and half a dozen people are left making music. And from there some hits come out. "But I don't believe that the music that is immediately successful will stay", analyzed the countryman. The duo disagrees with the criticisms of the composition process. For Davi, the campsites were vital, not only for the production of his hits, but also for finding the identity of the duo, which went through for a period of uncertainty. "We lived in a laboratory until around 2023, when we didn't know what to record, what Danilo and Davi looked like. And it was precisely within these camps that we managed to develop the duo's characteristics", he recalls. Danilo also defends group composition. "Most artists don't participate in the camps. They just go to listen to the music and get there and say, that's not what I wanted. If you don't participate, if you're not there getting your hands dirty, you won't know what's good for you."
