The United States government has made it official that it will impose a 25% surcharge on a wide range of Brazilian products from July 22nd. The decision is the result of an investigation by the Office of the American Trade Representative into alleged "unfair practices" in the Brazilian economy - the final report cites deforestation, intellectual property protection, treatment of big techs and even PIX. In a public demonstration, Secretary of State Marco Rubio criticized President Lula and said that the Brazilian government lacked "good faith." The Planalto Palace classified the measure as a "regrettable" milestone in the relationship between the countries and threatens to trigger the Reciprocity Law.
