Ice cream shop that sells just one flavor makes R$60,000 per month The queue on the Ponta Negra promenade, in Natal (RN), has already become part of the landscape. Tourists and residents gather daily to taste artisanal ice cream served inside the coconut — a combination that transformed a beach cart into a business with average revenue of R$60,000 per month. Behind the idea is Leo Fernandes, an entrepreneur who started working only with açaí and creams on the beach seven years ago. Graduated in business management, he always had the goal of entrepreneurship and found coconut ice cream the opportunity to make a leap in sales. The inspiration came from outside the country. After hearing from a friend who had visited Thailand about desserts served in coconuts, Leo decided to adapt the concept for the Brazilian public. The initial investment was R$10,000. “When he mixed the ice cream with coconut pulp, it got even better”, says the entrepreneur. Coconut ice cream becomes a rage and makes entrepreneurs earn R$60,000 in Christmas Reproduction/PEGN The product's difference lies in the experience: the coconut is opened immediately, the pulp is removed in front of the customer and the fruit water is offered free of charge. "It was also a business strategy. I think it was looking for a strategy to attract more customers", says Leo. Social media helped boost the business. The entrepreneur started by releasing videos recorded on his own cell phone and had the spontaneous support of digital influencers. “People from outside came and saw a very strong influencer and ended up spreading the word. So this attracted even more customers”, he says. Coconut ice cream becomes a craze and makes entrepreneurs earn R$60,000 in Christmas Reproduction/PEGN Today, the operation is family-owned. Leo's sisters participate in the production, service and logistics of the cart, while local suppliers guarantee the daily delivery of fresh coconuts. “The more I sell, the more they earn”, says the entrepreneur about family work. With an average ticket of R$20, the business allowed Leo to stop acting as an Individual microentrepreneur (MEI) and migrate to a microenterprise (ME). Now, he is considering opening new spots on other beaches in Rio Grande do Norte and even taking the brand to other states. “Courage, persistence and a lot of resilience in ups and downs”, summarizes the entrepreneur when talking about the challenges of the business.
