Airlines may be fined if they charge for seat assignments for passengers under 16 years of age who, as a rule, can travel alongside their guardians or family members at no additional cost. The decision was regulated by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) and complies with a court decision. The rule, in force since 2023, guarantees that children and adolescents under 16 years of age are accommodated in seats adjacent to those of their guardians or family members without charging for seat assignment. The obligation applies both when purchasing the ticket and in cases of changing the reservation.
