The next ten days will be of severe weather conditions for the south of Brazil, with direct impacts on a large part of Rio Grande do Sul. According to Canal Rural meteorologist, Arthur Müller, rain is expected to exceed 200 mm in a large part of the state, exceeding 300 mm in the north of Rio Grande do Sul.
“Unfortunately, we are facing the first risk of flooding of the year with the likely overflow of rivers to the north of Rio Grande do Sul, such as in Palmeiras das Missões, up to the border with Santa Catarina because this rain will not stop and the soil is already excessively moist in the region”, he details.
According to him, the excess rainfall with episodes of storms should only reduce in intensity in the middle of next week, after Tuesday (21).

The expert explains that the warning arises from the action of a meteorological trough and a wave train, phenomena that should favor the formation of three extratropical cyclones over the Region starting on Thursday (16).
The expert also highlights that from Friday (17) until next Tuesday (21), the forecast is for the formation of low-level jets, known as flying rivers, which bring voluminous precipitation to the South. “This condition should last from seven to ten days, bringing a lot of rain to Rio Grande do Sul, especially to the north of the state”, he highlights.
