Boy locked by his mother asked for water through the window before rescue

The operation was carried out by the Guardianship Council, with support from the Military Police and the Fire Department, after the case came to the attention of the authorities.

In videos posted on social media, the boy appears talking through the window with one of the agents participating in the rescue. He said he was without food or drinking water and said he had only been fed with some cookies he received from a neighbor.

"I just ate some cookies," said the boy, as he asked for water. To be able to talk to him, rescuers used a ladder to reach the bedroom window.

After being removed from the property, the boy said he would like to live with his father. The possibility will be analyzed by the Court.

The child's mother was arrested. According to what she told authorities, she had gone to work during the night and decided to leave her son locked in the room to prevent him from having access to food. According to his report, the intention was to prevent the boy, who is diabetic, from eating more than recommended.

Residents of the condominium stated, however, that the situation was recurring. Doorman Carlos Eduardo Freitas told g1 that it was common to hear the child screaming from the room throughout the day.

"In the afternoon the children go out to play and he interacts with them through the window. It's sad, it hurts us," he said.

Another resident, Loiana Kelly Brito, stated that she had already witnessed attacks on the boy and that a former neighbor even contacted the Child Protection Council after hearing repeated requests for help.

"She said that she had already called the Child Protection Council because she heard him asking for help alone at the window. She also helped feed the boy when he was alone", he reported.

When the police managed to open the apartment and bedroom door, the child said he hoped to "have a better life" from that moment on.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where tests showed that his diabetes was decompensated due to the long period without food.

"The doctor explained that his glucose level was very altered due to the time he remained without eating", said guardianship counselor Cleiton Araújo.

According to g1, the child needed to be transferred to another hospital unit to receive a new treatment that would allow the proper application of insulin.

According to the counselor, the boy relieved himself in a bottle in his room and kept insulin pens within reach, a situation considered high risk for a child.

In addition to the conditions in which the boy was found, the apartment showed signs of abandonment. There was a large amount of rubbish, clothes scattered on the floor and spoiled food.
