According to the investigation into the case, cited by the newspaper “Sun”, the couple was sleeping when the bear began to destroy the tent, around 1 am. The animal reportedly dragged Snezhana away as she screamed.

A witness identified as Alina reported the situation. “He wouldn’t let her go and dragged her to the other side of the river,” he said. Russian rangers and police were called and even shot into the air in an attempt to drive the animal away. However, they did not shoot the bear, despite having had the opportunity to kill it, due to shooting restrictions in that region.
Snezhana's remains were later found in the place where the animal had buried the body. Agents managed to reach the point only after the bear was scared away.
Residents of the region stated that approximately 20 bears roam nearby. Experts have pointed out that the reduction in regulated hunting periods and the lack of natural foods, such as nuts, have led animals to look for food near inhabited areas and camping sites.
After Snezhana's death, authorities declared a 10-day state of alert in the region.
