In his career, he only finished the championship in a better position once: in 2020, when he was defending Red Bull and was seventh, with 105 points. In 2019, the year he raced for Toro Rosso and Red Bull, he finished eighth, with 92.
Performance in 2026, however, has been more discreet. Albon appears in 16th place in the standings, with five points, while Sainz has six.
Pilot market for 2027 remains open
With Albon confirmed, Williams has not yet officially defined who will occupy the other car in 2027. Carlos Sainz arrived at the team in 2025, coming from Ferrari, but has not yet agreed a contract extension for next season.
The Spaniard's stay is one of the open questions in the Formula 1 driver market. According to Reuters, Sainz's contract is multi-year, but there is speculation that there is a performance clause that would allow him to leave after two seasons if another opportunity arises.
