Despite the strong quarter, the guidance fell short of consensus. Walmart raised its adjusted earnings per share forecast for the full fiscal year to a range of $2.80 to $2.87, from a previous estimate of $2.70 to $2.85. The company also began projecting sales growth of 4% to 5% for the year, above the previous guidance of 3.5% to 4.5%. Analysts expected US$2.90 per share and 5.5% expansion in sales, respectively.

At 8:36 am (Brasília time), Walmart shares fell 6.20% in the New York pre-market.
