What the workers demand According to Sindespecial, the category rejected the proposal presented by the Union of Passenger Transport Companies by Charter of the State of Amazonas (Sifetran). In addition to a larger salary adjustment, workers are asking for: Reduction in working hours; Granting and readjustment of food assistance; Better working conditions. To Rede Amazônica, one of the drivers participating in the strike stated that the category has accumulated losses in recent years. "We are stopping to demand wages and, mainly, staff meals. The employer did not accept our proposal and we are stopping everywhere asking for everyone's support", said the driver identified as Antônio. The strike also surprised workers who depend on the routes to reach the Industrial District. Francisco, who usually boards at 5am, said he was informed about the problem only after arriving at the location. "We hit 7:15 am, so I was supposed to be at the company drinking coffee. We were surprised by this stop. They sent a message asking us to stay calm while they try to find a solution, whether they're going to pay for the app or something else. We're just waiting", reported Francisco. According to the Municipal Institute of Urban Mobility (IMMU), the strike is not related to Manaus City Hall. The agency reported that workers demand salary adjustments directly from companies in the sector. IMMU also reported that the institute's traffic agents are in blocked areas to guide drivers and work to organize traffic. In a statement, the entity highlighted that any interruption in workers' transportation directly affects production, especially at a time when companies are seeking to recover productivity and compensate for losses already recorded. According to Cieam, some industries are already facing line stoppages due to the difficulty in moving employees. "Dialogue between the parties involved is essential for a solution to be reached quickly, avoiding the worsening of losses to companies, workers and the economy of Amazonas", stated the entity. The center also highlighted that the continuity of activities at the Manaus Industrial Pole depends on regular conditions of mobility, logistics and access to the Industrial District, considered essential factors for fulfilling production commitments and maintaining the sector's competitiveness. The Brazilian Association of Manufacturers of Motorcycles, Mopeds, Mopeds, Bicycles and Similar Products (Abraciclo) reported that it is monitoring the situation and carrying out a survey of member companies to assess the effects of the strike.
