Video: Little anteater is found sleeping in a residence in Porto Velho The residents of a condominium in Porto Velho had an unusual visitor on Wednesday night (12): a little anteater (Tamandua tetradactyla). The animal entered one of the condominium's residences, located in the South Zone of the capital, and was rescued by the Fire Department this Thursday morning (13). The rescue was recorded by a resident, who found the anteater sleeping behind vases and a can of paint. (See video above.) The night before, the animal had already been seen circulating around the condominium. According to the Fire Department, which was called to carry out the rescue, the anteater appeared to be sick. After capture, firefighters sent the animal to the care of the State Secretariat for Assistance and Social Development (Setas) and the Veterinary Medicine course at the Federal University of Rondônia (Unir), where it will undergo evaluation. According to the condominium manager, the anteater may have come from a vacant lot located nearby. He said the owner of the area has been notified, but the site has not yet been cleaned. Despite its calm appearance, the animal requires care and should not be captured by untrained people, warns the expert. "The lesser anteater should never be restrained by people. When it feels threatened, it defends itself with a strong hug using its claws, capable of causing serious injuries", explains the biologist.
