"As already demonstrated by the Brazilian government, none of the reasons mentioned in section 301 justify the application of the recommended tariffs", says the ministry. "Following President Lula's guidance, it was reiterated that the application of any surcharge appears unfair and is not the way for us to formulate a mutually adequate bilateral agreement."
A report from Folha de S.Paulo showed, this Tuesday, that members of the government will recommend to President Lula the adoption of reciprocity measures towards the United States. The possibility was mentioned by Finance Minister, Dario Durigan, on Tuesday.
"The reciprocity process was started in the past. We even suspended the process, following the law of the National Congress, when there was a kind of backtracking on the tariff. With this now, I think it is likely that we, once President Lula has been consulted, will resume the reciprocity process", he declared.
