He gained notoriety in the sport by winning the world championship in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior bantamweight category. In November 2017, Zolani Tete recorded the fastest knockout in history in a world title fight. On that occasion, he defeated compatriot Siboniso Gonya in just eleven seconds of the first round.
His last fight was in July 2022, when he defeated Englishman Jason Cunningham in London. Later, the victory was passed on to the European after the South African tested positive for anti-doping.
