The presentation is part of the program of the 2nd Águas de Manaus Theater Exhibition, which brings together shows and training activities aimed at enhancing and accessing the performing arts until next Sunday, August 16th. "The second edition of the Exhibition could not start in a better way, with the Teatro Amazonas packed and such a beautiful response from the public. For Águas de Manaus, supporting this project for the second year reinforces the conviction that investing in culture is also investing in people and the city", highlights the Social Responsibility Manager at Águas de Manaus, Simony Dias. The 2nd Águas de Manaus Theater Show is held by the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Culture (MinC), and by the Brazilian Theater Institute (iBT). The event features a presentation by Águas de Manaus, institutional support from Benevolência and the Union of Passenger Transport Companies of the State of Amazonas (Sinetram), in addition to cultural support from the Amazonas Theater Federation (FETAM). More about the show Based on the work of Canadian playwright Michel Marc Bouchard, the play follows Tom, an advertising executive, who travels to his partner's family farm for the funeral. Upon arriving, he discovers that the boy's mother did not know about their relationship and that a hoax was created to hide her son's homosexuality. From then on, Tom finds himself involved in a plot of lies, violence and manipulation led by the deceased's brother. The story addresses themes such as homophobia, prejudice and power relations within the family. "It is a play that moves, provokes and highlights the strength of theater as a tool for social transformation. Choosing it to open the 2nd Águas de Manaus Theater Show is an invitation for the public to live an intense artistic experience and reflect on urgent and deeply human themes", says the cultural director of the Brazilian Theater Institute (iBT), Oliver Tibeau. In the cast, Armando Babaioff shares the scene with Denise Del Vecchio, Iano Salomão and Camila Nhary. Under the direction of Rodrigo Portella, the production uses mud and water to compose the scenery. The production debuted in 2017 and has already had almost 600 presentations and more than 200,000 spectators in Brazil and abroad. The show toured countries such as Canada, France, Belgium, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, as well as festivals such as Off Avignon and the Edinburgh Festival. In 2023, during a season at the Théâtre Paris-Villette, in Paris, it broke the audience and box office record in the history of the theater. The trajectory has also yielded important recognition, including the APCA, Shell, Cesgranrio and APTR awards, in addition to the Prix de la Critique, awarded by the Québec Theater Critics Association.
