Terra da Gente accompanies an event dedicated to bird watching and reveals biodiversity in Tapiraí (SP)

The seven-colored tanager (Tangara seledon) was chosen as the symbol bird of the municipality Leonardo Vilela Terra da Gente this Saturday (22) takes part in a special event in Tapiraí, in the interior of São Paulo. To get there, the team travels on roads that cross mountains and lead to the city, which has around 8 thousand inhabitants, but has a vast territory. The name Tapiraí originates from Tupi and means “place of the tapir”, a reference to the large number of these animals that live in the region’s forests. The place is rich in flora and mammals. In addition to the tapirs, trap cameras have already caught the ocelot and the puma there. Birds are also part of the landscape. Those who participated in the trail to the Serra Verde viewpoint were able to observe species such as the Yellow-fronted Tanager (Thraupis ornata) and the Blue-fronted Tanager (Thraupis cyanoptera), found exclusively in Brazilian forests.
