Without the presence of JHC, PSDB-Cidadania announces former mayor as candidate for the government of AL The PSDB-Cidadania Federation announced, on Wednesday night (5), the former mayor of Maceió João Henrique Caldas (PSDB), JHC, as a candidate for the government of Alagoas. In a consultation carried out by g1 this Thursday morning (6), JHC's name still did not appear in the DivulgaCandContas system or in the Electoral Data Repository. The minutes of the convention were also not available. When contacted, the former mayor's office informed that it was awaiting confirmation from the campaign coordination to take a position on the candidacy. The Democratic Labor Party of Alagoas (PDT-AL) made official, this Wednesday (5), the name of Ronaldo Lessa (PDT) as candidate for vice-governor on the JHC ticket. Despite the party's definition, Lessa's name was not announced during the PSDB-Citizenship Federation convention. At the event, it was informed that the candidate for vice-governor would be announced by the end of this Thursday afternoon (6). The names that will compete for the Senate for the coalition have also not been announced. Régis Cavalcante explained that the definition of the remaining candidates for the majority positions should take place within 24 hours following the convention. “We were delegated to complete these minutes within the next 24 hours, as required by law, to indicate the other names on the majority list of our coalition”, stated Régis. The convention was initially scheduled for 2pm on Wednesday, but was postponed to 9pm. Parties and federations have until 7pm on August 15th to register their candidacies with the Electoral Court. JHC's trajectory JHC Reproduction/ TV Asa Branca Alagoas João Henrique Holanda Caldas is 39 years old, a lawyer and began his political career as a state deputy, after being elected in 2010. He is the son of former deputy João Caldas and senator Eudócia Caldas. In 2014, JHC was elected federal deputy with 135,929 votes, the highest vote for the position in Alagoas in that election. Four years later, he was re-elected with 178,645 votes. In 2020, he ran for Mayor of Maceió for the PSB and won the contest in the second round. Ronaldo Lessa, then a member of the PDT, was elected vice-mayor. JHC was re-elected mayor of the capital of Alagoas in 2024, in the first round, with 379,544 votes, equivalent to 83.25% of valid votes. The politician resigned as mayor on April 4, 2026, the last day of the disqualification period for those who intended to run in this year's elections.
