Rockers since they were babies: parents talk about how musical genre influenced their children's upbringing Early contact with guitars, drums and classic rock songs is a powerful tool for two families in Ribeirão Preto (SP) in raising children. They believe that musical style goes far beyond entertainment. This Monday (13th) World Rock Day is celebrated and, to celebrate the date, g1 spoke to rock fans who say: the passion for the genre passed from father to son naturally. At the home of musician Beto Leonetti and writer Silvia Ueno, their 7-year-old son Thomas swapped children's songs for classic bands and, since he was a baby, transformed interacting with chords into a stimulus to express himself and interact. ?Click here to follow the g1 Ribeirão e Franca channel on WhatsApp In the family of teacher Nayara Kobori and vocalist Renato Rosa, the reality is similar. The couple chose the name of their 2-year-old son Eduardo, in honor of rockers Edu Falaschi and Supla, and the boy already has a favorite band, follows his father's shows closely and has fun imitating his father's movements on stage. The experience between the chords and the stage environment reflects on the growth of the two children. Parents notice practical improvements in boys' social skills, patience and creativity. Regardless of whether a child wants to be a musician or not, music is fundamental to development. It helps to learn social skills, to control oneself, to understand that he has his moment and his friend's moment. In Ribeirão Preto, SP, Thomas and Eduardo's parents share a love for rock and encourage coexistence with music as a pillar in their children's education and development Personal archive The families' perception has a scientific basis. Musical director and teacher at the School of Rock in Ribeirão Preto, Daniel Junta explains that children's musicalization requires simultaneous brain movements. "Contact with instruments and rhythms works hearing, vision, reading and memory at the same time. When a child is playing an instrument, all of this is interconnected. It helps a lot, not only in the musical aspect, but also in regular study and discipline." Rock instead of children's cartoons ? The influence of rock on Thomas' life began during pregnancy. Silvia reports that her husband, Beto, used to play the musical genre on a country guitar near her belly to calm the baby. After the birth, the parents kept the style in their routine and opted for videos of shows by bands like AC/DC, Pink Floyd and Metallica on the home screens. The immersion made the boy learn to play the family record player when he was just 1.5 years old. "He would take a stool, look through his record collection, take 'Dark Side of the Moon', by Pink Floyd, and place it with the greatest care on the planet. I didn't breathe for fear of him ruining the needle. But it was very cute", recalls his mother. Thomas shows a taste for rock from an early age and maintains the habit of listening to vinyl records on the family record player Personal archive Thomas grew up attending his father's shows. The boy also played the drums at home to try to copy the rhythms of international rock idols. "He really liked seeing the band Rush playing with Neil Peart, who is a monster. And that's what he could reproduce in the drums he saw", says Beto. Extra attention helps with creativity. The boy uses recyclable materials and cardboard to create his own games and even invents words to sing. "He got a hot glue gun and is creating things all day long. We noticed that his creativity came to the fore in an attempt to avoid that easy solution of a cell phone screen", says Silvia. The family connection bore professional fruit. Silvia writes books and produces content about early childhood education on the internet. She and her husband produced educational music with a rock and roll feel, and Thomas participated by playing drums on the recordings. Encouraged from an early age by contact with music at home, Thomas has fun experimenting with instruments and exploring the rhythm of the drums Personal archive Idol name and stage sofa ? Music also dictated the rules in the life of Eduardo, aged 2. The father, lead singer of a Led Zeppelin cover band for 15 years, met the mother because of music and the couple decided on the baby's name based on the Brazilian artists they follow. "We've always really liked Edu Falaschi, Angra, and Supla. They're both called Eduardo. When I found out I was pregnant, we were already sure of the name", says Nayara. After birth, the parents noticed the boy's ability to deal with loud sounds. Eduardo started attending Renato's performances and is not intimidated by crowded places. He developed a peculiar taste at a young age. Nayara Kobori and Renato Rosa have encouraged their son Eduardo's musical taste since pregnancy Personal archive According to the family, Eduardo's daily playlist mixes classic Disney songs with hits from the comedic metal band Massacration. But the boy's main game at home is copying his father's movements on stage. "There was a day when we took the cushions off the sofa at home to wash and it was like a stage. He picked up his toy guitar, got on the sofa and started playing and singing, to imitate Renato", says his mother. The coexistence at shows is also special for Renato. The vocalist guarantees that his son's presence at the venue makes a difference in the band's performance. Having him on stage with me or in the audience is always a boost that gives me the opportunity to be up there and make the show better and better. I think it brings together two things that I love very much: my son and music. Seeing him with me like this is really projecting the future. Suddenly, playing together with him up front will be a very exciting thing. Little Eduardo, aged 2, follows his father, Renato Rosa, closely during the shows held in Ribeirão Preto, SP Personal archive Nayara notes the effects of musicalization on her son's daily life. Eduardo takes music classes at school and, according to the teachers, he is the student who pays the most attention and interacts the most. "The neurodevelopment of children who have contact with music is different. It activates other parts of the brain, both the sound part and the cognitive and motor development part. We feel that he calms down better", says his mother. Far beyond music ? Professor Daniel Junta explains that imitation, playful classes and the environment of shows bring important social gains. According to him, musicalization generates an increase in self-confidence and improves the child's interaction in groups. To g1, Daniel revealed that learning operates on three pillars: rhythm, melody and harmony. Rock is a central gear for this development. Children from the age of 2 can already absorb stimuli through activities quick and dynamic to expend energy. "It is clear that, when students have this contact with music, they develop discipline, because the student has to have a training routine and patience to achieve what they want." Daniel's classes include different rhythms, such as blues, funk and reggae, so that students understand the origins of classic rock. Daily interaction with music makes Thomas and Eduardo's families imagine the years to come. Although they respect the children's choices, the parents do not hide their joy in seeing their children follow the same artistic steps. Thomas states that he wants to be a biologist when he grows up, but Beto and Silvia guarantee their full support if the path changes to the stage. Creativity is something that has to be encouraged", jokes the boy's mother. Musician Beto Leonetti and writer Silvia Ueno encourage Thomas's contact with different musical styles from birth Personal archive For Renato, Eduardo's father, musical heritage is already a reason for personal fulfillment. The vocalist remembers that he learned to sing and play with difficulty in his youth and guarantees that his 2-year-old son will have all the support he needs if he wants to form his own band. "Nowadays he has the privilege of having better conditions and accessibility. If he wants, he will have many opportunities to fly far."
