The initiative marks the beginning of a pilot project by Tree Earth, an Amazonian startup partner of Fundação Rede Amazônica, in partnership with Kinross Brasil Mineração, to monitor the environmental recovery of more than 10 hectares of mined areas in the municipality of Paracatu (MG). The platform developed by the company uses high-precision georeferencing, satellite monitoring and blockchain records to document all stages of environmental restoration. Each seedling received an individual record linked to its geographic coordinates, allowing it to track its location, field history, technical documentation and the evolution of the restored area. The information will be gathered in a digital environment that integrates satellite images, geospatial records, data collected in the field and evidence produced during the execution of the project, expanding the traceability of actions and the management of environmental assets. ? "From now on, each seedling will have a digital history that brings together its location, field records, satellite images and technical documentation. This strengthens the traceability of environmental actions and creates a reliable basis for the management of environmental assets and future certification processes", he states.

The initiative also represents an advance in the structuring of a Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system, a methodology used to organize, monitor and document information related to environmental projects, increasing data transparency and the ability to prove results. In addition to supporting the monitoring of areas under recovery, the platform will allow consolidating information produced from the cultivation of seedlings to the development of vegetation over time. The digital history can support audits, technical inspections and future environmental validation and certification processes. For Alessandro Nepomuceno, Sustainability Director at Kinross Brasil Mineração, the initiative demonstrates how digital transformation can strengthen environmental management. "More than planting trees, we need to build trust. The climate agenda requires solutions that integrate the environment, social development and technological innovation. This project demonstrates how digital transformation can strengthen environmental management and generate more transparency for restoration initiatives", he highlights. The seedlings monitored by the platform are part of the Kinross Community Nursery Program, created in 2017 and developed in partnership with 20 families from the community of Santa Rita, in Paracatu. The nurseries produce around 10,000 native Cerrado seedlings per year, including endangered species. The plants are used in the environmental recovery of mining company areas, while production generates work and income for participating families. The expectation is that the pilot project will serve as a reference for the digitalization of other ecological restoration and rehabilitation programs for mined areas in Brazil, connecting technology developed in the Amazon, Cerrado conservation and community development.
