A ferry carrying limestone collided with another vessel carrying vehicles and passengers at the port of Miritituba, in Itaituba, southwest of Pará. No one was injured and only material damage was recorded. A video taken by a passenger recorded the moment of the collision. In the images, people who were at the scene warn of the risk of other vessels being hit and ask for the removal of a nearby boat. According to information provided to the report, the ferry transporting limestone had lost control after experiencing a mechanical failure in the engine. The affected vessel belongs to the company Rodonave and was moored in the port. A Rodonave representative stated that an immediate warning would not have been made via radio on frequency 16, a channel used in navigation for communications related to safety, urgency and assistance. Also according to the representative, a tug that was moored at the port was called when the possibility of collision was noticed. The vessel helped control the situation and reduce possible damage. The case must be reported to the Santarém Port Authority for appropriate procedures.
