Chamber debates financing of R$ 86 million for works on Estrada Engenheiro Gentil Forn The Municipal Chamber of Juiz de Fora approved, on Tuesday (14), the authorization for the city hall to contract financing of up to R$ 86.42 million from Caixa Econômica Federal for the recovery of Estrada Engenheiro Gentil Forn. The road has been closed since the heavy rains of February 2026, when a geological risk was identified on the stretch. The road is one of the main connections between Cidade Alta and the central region of the municipality. Now, the bill, authored by the Executive itself, must be sanctioned by Mayor Margarida Salomão (PT). In a note, the city hall informed that the next steps are to sign the financing and then carry out the bidding. ? The amount financed represents the majority of the investment planned for the work, estimated at R$90.97 million. The city hall is expected to provide a contribution of around R$4.55 million. Among the interventions are: the installation of 1,100 meters of cable-stayed curtain; execution of more than 4 thousand square meters of nailed soil; rock retaining walls; new drainage systems; paving; construction of accessible sidewalks. Routine affected According to the municipal administration, the road closure impacted the city's urban mobility. Around 13 thousand vehicles per day needed to seek alternative routes, 20 bus lines had route changes and approximately 52 thousand residents were affected. According to driver Eunice Fraga, the closure of the road increased travel time, which previously took 15 minutes. "Today it takes me 35 to 40 minutes passing through two roads that have no infrastructure and are dangerous," he said in an interview with TV Integração. Professor Fernanda Moisés stated that the ban brought insecurity. "It was absolutely deserted. People who played sports and walked here were approached by robbers. There is a lot of fear for safety," he concluded.
