A dental office was temporarily closed in the district of Icoaraci, in Belém, after an inspection identified flaws in the sterilization of materials, cleaning procedures and the biosafety conditions and infrastructure of the establishment. According to the Belém Municipal Health Department (Sesma), the office had already been notified to carry out licensing and make adjustments required by Health Surveillance. A deadline was given for the irregularities to be corrected, but, in a new inspection, inspectors found that the requirements had not been met. Given the conditions found, the establishment was closed as a precaution. According to the director of Sesma Health Surveillance, Paulo Victor Gomes, failures in health care can favor the transmission of infections and viral diseases. “The lack of adequate health care, as was the case in this incident, can result in the transmission of infection, serious viral diseases, such as hepatitis, HIV and others, in addition to an increased demand for health services due to the negligence of the defendant,” he stated. Health Surveillance reported that problems were also found in the processing of materials used during dental procedures. Office will only be able to reopen after adjustments.
