Cyclist died after being run over on the shoulder of the Rio-Santos highway Reproduction/CCI Artesp A cyclist died after being run over by a car on the shoulder of the Doutor Manoel Hipólito do Rego Highway (SP-055), known as Rio-Santos, near Bertioga, on the coast of São Paulo. The accident occurred around 11:30 pm on Friday (10), at km 215. According to the Transport Regulatory Agency of the State of São Paulo (Artesp), the driver came across the cyclist while overtaking on the shoulder and did not have time to brake or divert. ? According to the Highway Police (PMRv), a witness reported that the vehicle was traveling at high speed at the time of the accident.

Also according to the corporation, the rescue team from Concessionária Novo Litoral (CNL) confirmed the cyclist's death at the scene of the accident. He had no identification documents. According to the CNL, during the service, which began at 11:30 pm, the east and west lanes were closed, with traffic diverted to the shoulder under monitoring by teams and support from the Military Highway Police. The road was reopened around 5am this Saturday (11). The PMRv also reported that the driver of the car refused to take a breathalyzer test and the incident was forwarded to the Bertioga Police District (DP), where the case was registered as manslaughter while driving a motor vehicle and the driver was released.
