In a video recorded inside the hospital, the pregnant woman's father stated that his daughter had been in the unit for about an hour and that the baby was taken in serious condition to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). "My daughter has been here for an hour. The boy was born, fell on the floor of the hospital and no one solved anything. The child has now been sent to the ICU very badly. This is very unfair. It is absurd for the baby to be born here, falling on the floor and no one doing anything, with the girl suffering from pain", he said. In a note, Hospital da Cidade reported that the patient was in her sixth month of pregnancy when she was admitted to the unit. According to the unit, she quickly went into labor during the screening. The hospital stated that the maternity ward had a full team on duty for obstetric care. The unit did not provide information on the circumstances surrounding the baby's death nor did it respond specifically to the report that the child fell to the floor. The hospital declared that it opened an internal procedure to investigate the case. The mother remains hospitalized and is monitored by a multidisciplinary team. The family is also being assisted by Social Services and psychology professionals. In a statement, Hospital da Cidade lamented the child's death and expressed solidarity with the family. The unit also reported that the maternity hospital has carried out more than 4,000 births since its opening.
