The 27th edition of the Shrimp Festival begins this Thursday (16/7), at Praça da Cultura, in the Center. The program starts at noon and the official opening is scheduled for 7pm. Promoted by the Municipal Government, the Caraguatatuba Educational and Cultural Foundation (Fundacc) and the Praia do Camaroeiro Fishermen's Association, the event brings together gastronomy, caiçara traditions and artistic presentations in an extensive free program aimed at residents and tourists. Shrimp Festival Disclosure During the 11 days of the festival, always starting at noon, the public can taste shrimp-based dishes and other regional culinary delicacies, as well as check out artisanal products and different types of sweets. The musical program includes MPB, choro, reggae, rock and forró shows, as well as cultural events that promote and value local identity. The event will also feature an exhibition and sale of traditional crafts and a demonstration of the making of artisanal fishing nets and the minting of canoes in the Guapuruvu trunk, providing visitors with an immersion in the traditions of the fishing community. Among the main attractions is the traditional caiçara house with a wood-burning stove, produced especially for the festival. Built with clay, bamboo and piassava comb, it represents the typical architecture of fishing communities and offers the public an experience that brings back customs, knowledge and the caiçara way of life. Closing the program, on July 26th (Sunday), the traditional caiçara canoe race will be held. The gathering begins at 7:30 am, on the Centro beach, in front of Praça da Cultura. Participants can compete in different categories and there will be symbolic awards for the winners. In the last edition, the event attracted approximately 80 participants. More than a gastronomic event, the festivity aims to preserve, value and publicize the cultural and intangible heritage of Caraguatatuba, especially the caiçara traditions linked to fishing. The initiative also strengthens the community's cultural identity, keeping its knowledge and customs alive for future generations. The festival also boosts local economic development after the closed period and encourages the creative economy through the participation of artisans, artists and local producers.
