A new Russian attack against Kiev left at least 12 dead and 33 injured between Wednesday night (19) and Thursday morning (20), according to Ukrainian authorities. The bombing hit different parts of the capital and caused damage to residential buildings and other structures.

The air alert remained active for much of the morning. The attacks reached the districts of Darnytskyi, Sviatoshynskyi and Solomianskyi, where emergency teams worked to rescue residents trapped in the rubble.

In Solomianskyi, the top two floors of a nine-story residential building were destroyed. Fires also affected other parts of the building. A school and medical facilities were among those damaged during the offensive.

Russia has intensified the use of ballistic missiles against Kiev amid difficulties faced by Ukraine in keeping its anti-aircraft defense systems supplied.

The country has a limited number of equipment capable of intercepting this type of weaponry. Among them are the American-made Patriot systems, whose availability of interceptor missiles has been identified as one of the main bottlenecks in Ukrainian defense.

While Moscow increases attacks against the capital and other regions of Ukraine, Kiev also maintains a long-range campaign against targets inside Russian territory.

Ukrainian forces have directed offensives against weapons depots, military installations and logistical structures with the aim of reducing Russia's ability to sustain attacks on Ukrainian cities.

The Russian Defense Ministry said Thursday's offensive targeted facilities linked to the production of drone components, as well as a military depot and a logistics center in the Kiev region.
