Exit had been gaining strength
The transfer ends a negotiation that had been going on for some time. Revealed in FC Porto's youth categories, Rodrigo Mora was close to leaving the club last season, when the possibility of moving to Saudi Arabia arose. The agreement, however, did not move forward.
The midfielder remained in the squad, but lost space under coach Francesco Farioli. Gabri Veiga became the coach's main option for the role, while Mora remained in the background.
In the current season, the Portuguese entered the field for just 15 minutes, spread over three matches, a scenario that reinforced the possibility of an exit.
Businessman expressed dissatisfaction
The situation gained even more repercussion last weekend, when Luís Miguel Henrique, Rodrigo Mora's lawyer, told CMTV that the player was sad about the space he was receiving at FC Porto.
Farioli responded after the 2-0 victory over Rio Ave, on Sunday, and defended his choices. The coach stated that Mora and Gabri Veiga had similar usage times in the previous season, although the two players' numbers do not support this comparison.
"Rodrigo Mora has been a topic since last season, then things stabilized, but there seems to be a desire to build a narrative around him. I'm here to make decisions, I have to choose 11 players to start and others to join. Having Gabri Veiga and Rodrigo Mora in the same squad is a privilege, but we have to make choices", he declared.
The coach also reinforced that no player is above the group.
"In this club and especially in this team, the group is the priority. Nothing is bigger than FC Porto", he concluded.
With the agreement finalized and medical examinations still pending, Rodrigo Mora's transfer to Roma should be made official in the next few hours.
