Retail sales in Paraíba register second highest growth in the country Cacá Trovó/EPTV Retail sales in Paraíba registered an increase of 1.5% between April and May this year, according to the Monthly Commerce Survey (PMC), released this Thursday (16) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The growth was the second highest among all states in the country. According to the survey, Paraíba's growth was second only to the Federal District, which recorded a 1.6% increase in sales between one month and the next. The national average was 0.1%. ? In the comparison between May this year and the same month in 2025, the state had an increase of 0.6%, while Brazil recorded growth of 0.4%. In expanded retail trade, which includes, in addition to traditional retail activities, sectors such as vehicles, motorcycles, parts, construction materials and wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco products, Paraíba also presented positive results. The state had growth of 1.5% in May compared to April and an increase of 0.7% compared to May of the previous year. In the country, the indicator registered drops of 0.2% in the monthly comparison and 0.6% in the annual comparison. According to IBGE, among the eight activities surveyed in national retail trade, five registered progress in May. The biggest highlights were the segments of books, newspapers, magazines and stationery; fabrics, clothing and footwear; in addition to furniture and household appliances, sectors that were influenced by commemorative dates such as Mother's Day and the preparation for the World Cup.
