Petrobras finds promising sign of oil in Foz do Amazonas basin

The discovery indicates that there are hydrocarbons in the region, but it still does not mean that there is a commercial oil reserve. The well, called Morpho, is around 175 kilometers off the coast of Amapá and was drilled in deep waters, in a place where the sea is 2,886 meters deep. According to the state-owned company, the presence of hydrocarbons was identified through analyzes carried out during drilling, including electrical profiles and rock samples taken from underground. Finding hydrocarbons is just one of the first steps in exploring an area. Now, Petrobras will continue drilling and carrying out studies to answer two main questions: how much oil or gas there is at the site and whether the quantity is sufficient to justify production.
