During the investigation, two bottles containing substances similar to those identified in the child were found with Ana Paula. One of the containers was unmarked and contained a granular substance; the other stored a clear liquid. According to the process, the child was under the care of his maternal grandmother. On the day of her death, Ana Paula was on duty at a hospital, but she had gone to the house a few times stating that she wanted to see her daughter because she had a bad feeling. During the afternoon, the girl told her grandmother that she was very sleepy and felt pain in her tongue. Shortly afterwards, she fell ill and was taken to Professor Serra de Castro Hospital, where she suffered a cardiac arrest and died. At the time of medical care, Ana Paula reportedly stated that her daughter had been poisoned. After receiving news of the child's death, she took two bottles out of her pocket and stated that she intended to take her own life using the substances. Report confirmed poisoning The Legal Medical Institute carried out tests on the child's body, despite the initial resistance of the accused. The report confirmed the presence of a pesticide compatible with the substances found with Ana Paula. The police investigation indicated that the motivation for the crime was related to the difficulty reported by the mother in caring for her daughter, who needed multidisciplinary monitoring due to autism. After reading the sentence, the judge ordered the convict to be taken to the Women's Resocialization Prison Unit (UPFEM), in São Luís.
