Marcélia Cartaxo and Romulo Estrela will be honored During the opening ceremony, the festival will honor Marcélia Cartaxo and Romulo Estrela, in recognition of the trajectories of the two actors in Brazilian audiovisual. Marcélia Cartaxo is one of the biggest names in national cinema. Revealed in “A Hora da Estrela”, by Suzana Amaral, the actress won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin Festival and built a career marked by work in cinema, theater and television. Among the actress's most recent works are “Pacarrete” and “A Mãe”, for which she received the Kikito for Best Actress at the Gramado Festival. Born in São Luís, Romulo Estrela has a career spanning more than 20 years in theater, television and cinema. With work in soap operas, series, films and theater shows, the actor has established himself as one of the Maranhão artists with the greatest national recognition, performing on different platforms and for different audiences. “Resta Um” opens cinematographic program After the ceremony, the film “Resta Um”, directed by Fernando Ceylão and chosen to officially open the cinematographic program of the 49th edition, will be shown. The film brings together Caco Ciocler and Maria Clara Gueiros in the cast and is part of a program that seeks to bring the public closer to different experiences of Brazilian cinema. Festival will have programming until August 26th In addition to opening at Cinépolis São Luís Shopping, Guarnicê will have activities in other spaces in the capital of Maranhão until August 26th. The program includes film sessions, competitive and parallel exhibitions, training activities and initiatives aimed at children, young people, university students and people with disabilities. The VI Digital Games Competitive Exhibition is part of this edition's program, alongside the University Exhibition, Guarnicêzinho, the Youth Exhibition and the VI Cine Guarnicê Science Seminar. The theme of the edition is “Encounter” With the theme “Encounter”, the 49th edition proposes cinema as a space for coexistence, dialogue and collective construction. Created in 1977, initially as Jornada Maranhense de Super 8, the Guarnicê Film Festival reaches its 49th edition as the fourth oldest active film festival in Brazil. How to collect tickets for the opening The entire festival program is free. The opening ceremony, however, is subject to room capacity. Tickets will be available at the Festival HQ, located next to Kazuu Azzee, at Entrance A of São Luís Shopping.
