The rapprochement occurred during Lula's visit to the Petrobras drill ship that operates off the coast of Amapá, where the state-owned company confirmed the presence of oil.

Alcolumbre's movement occurred a few days after the resumption of dialogue with Lula. The two had broken politically after the president of the Senate acted against the nomination of Jorge Messias, chosen by the PT member for the STF (Supreme Federal Court). The reconciliation had the participation of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, from the STF, and was followed by new meetings between the two.
The advancement of the proposals in the Senate is of interest to the government at the beginning of the electoral campaign. In the case of critical minerals, the president once again defended that the country adds value to resources before exporting them. "We are not going to let anyone from outside come and want to explore our minerals because we want to transform them here", stated Lula.
The so-called rare earths are used in sectors such as technology, energy and defense and have gained importance in the face of the international dispute for strategic raw materials.
Lula's gesture was reciprocated by Alcolumbre during the ceremony. The Amapá senator highlighted the president's work to make oil exploration in the region viable and said he had waited for years for the arrival of a Petrobras drill ship.
"Thank you very much for the defense you have done over the last three and a half years, facing everything to defend this project from reaching today", stated the president of the Senate, who also associated oil exploration with the idea of national sovereignty.
"Recognition is doing justice. It is necessary for us, once and for all, to recognize in Brazil those who faced causes that were often contested or even criticized, not only by Brazilians who do not understand the importance of energy sovereignty, especially those other countries that unfortunately insist on wanting to protect the future of Brazil and Brazilians", said Alcolumbre.
Petrobras confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in the Morpho well, in the Foz do Amazonas Basin, but has not yet reported the potential volume of the discovery. The president of the state-owned company, Magda Chambriard, said the results are positive.
"There is oil and discovery, we still don't know how much, but we are extremely optimistic about what we are finding here," he stated.
Lula was on the drill ship accompanied by Alcolumbre, Magda and the governor of Amapá, Clécio Luís (União Brasil), who is running for re-election. The governor also gave a nod to the president and stated that the agenda symbolized the union between politicians of different persuasions.
"While many are cultivating a bipolar country, we, of different political stripes, set an example of a union that builds and overcomes differences," he said.
The visit took place on the second day of the electoral campaign and marked the fourth time, in around ten days, that Lula and Alcolumbre met since the beginning of the rapprochement.
