Wilians owns one of the largest corporate law firms in Brazil, NWADV, and has 1.4 million followers on a social network. In September last year, he had also been targeted by the PF for alleged participation in an INSS fraud and embezzlement scheme. When Operation Distrato was launched, Wilians' office informed that "the management of the mentioned operations was the exclusive responsibility of the office of De Paula Advogados & Consultoria Jurídica, without any corporate or control link with NWADV. Upon identifying inconsistencies, the office terminated the partnership and informed its clients". On August 14, the lawyer left his office indefinitely. According to a statement released to the press, the decision came from him. The decision was announced after Willians became the target of another operation, Arena, which investigates a business group from the northeast suspected of using corporate and financial structures abroad to hide the origin and destination of resources from gambling and sports betting. With his removal, the administration of NWADV will be carried out by an Executive Committee. The group will be responsible for the continuity of operations, institutional governance and relationships with customers, employees, partners and other stakeholders. "The decision was communicated by Dr. Nelson Wilians himself, who chose to dedicate himself at this time to caring for his family. The leave will also allow him to follow developments in the ongoing investigation and remain available to the authorities for any clarifications that may be necessary," the statement said.
