54th edition of the Gramado Film Festival begins The 54th edition of the Gramado Film Festival officially opens this Friday (14), in Serra Gaúcha. The event, which continues until August 22nd, brings together competitive exhibitions, tributes and the presentation of the Kikito, the award's best-known trophy. Created in 1966 by the artisan from Gramado Elisabeth Rosenfeld, the Kikito was initially made of lead and used to give gifts to friends of the creator. The figurine only gained notoriety in 1972, when it began to be delivered at the first National Crafts Fair in Gramado. ? That year, the first edition of the event also took place, which was born from the film exhibition held within the Festa das Hortênsias. The statuette almost came into dispute with the Oscar in the 1980s. When Gramado City Hall tried to register Kikito with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), the Hollywood Academy reportedly considered the trophy too similar to the Oscar statuette. Gramado City Hall presented a demonstration of opposition, defending the history and cultural importance of Kikito. In 1988, the INPI decided that the statuette had its own identity. The sculpture represents a smiling sun. According to the history of the project that declared Kikito cultural heritage of Gramado, the artisan's idea was to bring joy to friends, employees and residents of the city. ? Over the decades, Kikito has been produced in different materials, such as lead, wood and crystal. Currently, the figurine has a wooden base, is cast in bronze, measures 33 centimeters and weighs 3.5 kilos. There are no reports about the origin of the word Kikito or why Elisabeth named the piece that way, but, over time, the figurine gained the code name 'the God of good humor'. Initially, the gold hydrangea had been chosen as the top prize, but Kikito gained ground after the then Secretary of Tourism of Gramado, Romeu Dutra, presented the statuette to the president of the National Cinema Institute (INC), Ricardo Caravo Albin. 54th edition of the event This year, six fiction features compete for Kikito in the festival's main competitive exhibition: "Chorão: Só os Loucos Sabem", "Feito Pipa", "Justino – Nos Bastidores do Reino", "Leite em Pó", " Nosso Segredo " and "Pele de Rhinoceros". The official opening takes place at 3pm this Friday. At 5pm, the red carpet is scheduled to open. At 6pm, the film "Antártida", by Bruno Safadi, starring Andrea Beltrão, Marina Ruy Barbosa, Leandra Leal, Antonio Calloni, Lázaro Ramos and João Vitor Silva will be shown out of competition. Among this edition's honorees are: Andrea Beltrão, who will receive the Oscarito Trophy; Marcos Caruso, awarded the City of Gramado Trophy; Renata Almeida Magalhães, winner of the Eduardo Abelin Trophy; Selton Mello and Maria Fernanda Cândido, who will receive the Kikito de Cristal. For the first time, the honor will be awarded to two artists in the same edition. The closing session will feature "La Perra", a co-production between Chile and Brazil directed by Dominga Sotomayor. The film, which premiered in Cannes, has Selton Mello in the cast and executive production. The plot follows a lonely woman who rescues a puppy and begins to confront traumas and episodes from her past. The program also includes the premiere of the series "Emergency 53", created by Claudio Torres, Márcio Maranhão and Andrucha Waddington. The first episode will be shown on August 17th at Palácio dos Festivais. With ten episodes, the production follows doctors, nurses and drivers from a mobile emergency unit who try to save patients while facing personal and professional dramas. The cast includes Yara de Novaes, Emílio Dantas, Valentina Herszage, Ana Hikari and Raquel Villar, as well as special appearances by Fernanda Montenegro, Julia Lemmertz and Antonio Grassi.
